My Review

I was kindly sent an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have to give it to Wendy Higgings because her blurb is spot on. This book is as intense as its intriguing. & I mean intense as in, it was difficult to put down the book during some parts. I think that says a lot about how good the storyline is.

The characters felt important. You got the feeling that everyone was of importance & had a purpose. They’re not just thrown into the story without a second thought. Avah, is one of those protagonists that from the first page you don’t necessarily dislike them, but at the same time, they don’t blow you away. Though as her character starts to develop alongside the story, she started to grow on me. My guess is that it’s intentional from the author’s side & I have to say that it’s a clever move.

If you’re not an avid fantasy reader, you might have some trouble with the language. It’s a lot of talking about different elements, powers, rituals etc. Personally, I think it’s interesting & adds to my overall impression of this particular fictional world but, I can see why it would be too much for someone who’s not that… ”into” the whole fantasy, witchcraft, vampires genre.

Yes, there are a couple of moments where you can predict what will happen, but they are so few that it can be overlooked. Overall, I think it’s a beautifully written book with characters that really capture your heart & attention.
